The Story of »Solibus«.
The Idea of the »Solibus« has a long history.
Time and again, the availability and use of coaches have played an important role in political history. Bus journeys have always been an important part of the antifacist, antiracist and queer movements, such as the almost six-week »Caravan for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants« that took place in 1998 (an impressive video, about empowerment, contradictions and the arguments leading to it)
Often activists who worked within bus companies could use their coaches as a part of the left-wing infrastructure. However, when a solidarity bus company went out of business in 2001, it became noticeably more difficult to organize coaches for left-wing projects under these old conditions.
The three decades of left-wing history we have lived through, have convinced us that we need our own »Solibus« operated by and for the movement!
The »Solibus e. V.«
In 2007 two Berlin activists were already working intensely on ideas for the »Solibus« project. Networking with interested activists and existing projects has continued since then. In 2018 the idea was revived with an extended circle of people – this time with more favorable starting conditions than ever before.
On the 22nd of January 2019, the non-profit association »Solibus e. V.« was founded. We are a collection of bus drivers, bus mechanics, accountants, book-worms, »tax foxes«, scribblers, thinkers, critics, archaeologists and more.
The responsibility for the transport activities of the »Solibus« lies with our IHK-certified traffic manager (§ 2, Personenbeförderungsgesetz (PBefG)).
